From the breakfast table to the newsstand, these images gave the people of the U.S.A. and the world a first hand look at the critical moments that now symbolize the civil rights movement: police dogs attacking protesters in Birmingham, state troopers beating down peaceful marchers in Selma, and the hundreds of thousands gathered for the March on Washington, the largest political demonstration in the history of the United States of America. Exhibited for the first time in the Southern United States, these photographs explore and document the most important social struggle in the history of this country. This exhibition features over 30 original photographs by Bruce Davidson, Elliott Erwitt, Benedict Fernandez, Leonard Freed, Nat Herz, James Karales, Charles Moore, Charmian Reading, Robert Sengstacke, Kenneth Thompson, Tamio Wakayama, Dan Weiner and Ernest Withers.
