Backstage, on stage or off-stage, he has captured through his photographs the private and public moments of legendary musicians. A native of Long Island, New York, Gruen began his career in the late sixties when he was hired by Atlantic Records to photograph a party for the Bee Gee's. He went on to spend time on the road with such musical giants as the Rolling Stones, Ike and Tina Turner and Led Zepplin. For the past three decades, he has been one of the most prolific and important Rock and Roll photographers of his generation. His close friendship with John Lennon and Yoko Ono during the 1970's resulted in some of the most intimate and honest photographs of the couple. He documented the public and private life of John and Yoko until John Lennon's death in 1980. His beautiful limited edition book "Sometime in New York City" was co-authored by Yoko Ono and eloquently captures the life John and Yoko shared in photographs and words.
