Uelsmann New Work Opening Reception with the Artist Wednesday April 29, 1998 6-9pm April 29, 1998 - June 30, 1998 Jerry N. Uelsmann has been a major creative force in fine art photography for over four decades. This extensive exhibition will feature new images made over the past five years, including landscapes of Yosemite, imagery from his museum studies project and photographs inspired by other artists and mentors. Jerry N. Uelsmann is a master printer of the multiple image. His photographs are filled with poetry, mystery, humor and symbolism. "My images say far more than I could say in words. I believe in photography as a way of exploring the possibilities of man. I am committed to photography and life...and the gods have been good to me. What can I say. Treat my images kindly, they are my children." -Jerry N. Uelsmann Jerry N. Uelsmann was born in 1934 in Detroit, Michigan. He studied under Minor White and Ralph Hattersly at the Rochester Institute of Technology where he received his BFA in 1957. As a graduate student at Indiana University, he met his mentor Henry Holmes Smith and after earning an MS and MFA there in 1960, he began teaching at the University of Florida where he still teaches today. Jerry N. Uelsmann has been the recipient of the Guggenheim Fellowship in 1967 and the National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in 1972.
