P.H. Emerson was born on his father's sugar plantation in
La Palma, Cuba in 1856.
He resided in England until his death in 1936.
Known for:
Photographs of nature; rural subjects presented in a simple, direct manner.

Did you know ... ? Emerson was an avid naturalist. He was also a doctor. He destroyed all of his negatives shortly after printing from them.
P.H. served on the Council of the Photographic Society.
He published the controversial and influential book,
"Naturalistic Photography for Students of Art".
Emerson was a champion billiards player.
