Kenna grew up in a small, industrial town, and at varying times almost all of his family was employed by the factory. He attributes this background to his interest in the factory featured in his book, The Rouge.
Many of his photographs are long time exposures at night.
"I expect a viewer to be able to enter an image and react with the environment. I try to create "stage sets" for them to perform on."
