A native of Laredo, Texas, she was educated in New York at Bard College. Finding inspiration in poets such as Rilke, Baudelaire, Garcia-Lorca and Huidobro, Sacabo conveys her passion for literature through her photographs. "Poetry and photography are both a task of distillation, a way to bring the complexities of the world down to one perfect image." -Josephine Sacabo Josephine Sacabo's newest portfolio, "El Mundo Inalcanzable de Susana San Juan," is a series of photographs based on the novel "Pedro Paramo", a tragic myth of Mexico by Juan Rulfo. Set in a town in ruins, the story of Susana San Juan is revealed through Sacabo's beautifully haunting images. Surrounded by cruelty, senseless violence, and death, Susana San Juan is forced to take refuge in madness. Speaking from her tomb in a series of memories and delusions, Susana San Juan reveals her "unreachable world", the inner world to which she has fled for protection from the ravages around her. Sacabo's images convey the haunted spirit of a woman for whom madness is salvation. Une Femme Habitˇe, by Josephine Sacabo, is available in hardcover For more information, please call 568-1313.
