Jerry Uelsmann was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1934.
He currently resides in Gainesville, Florida with his wife, artist Maggie Taylor.
Uelsmann has been a major creative force in fine art photography for nearly four decades. He is the master innovator of the multiple image.
His mystical and enigmatic images abound with mystery and symbolism. He received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1967 and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in 1972. His reputation as an educator is as impressive as his reputation as a photographer. He has taught at the University of Florida since the 1960s, and gives workshops and lectures throughout the world. Uelsmann's photographs are collected extensively by museums.

Uelsmann does not use any digital processes. He creates each print in the darkroom using three to eight enlargers.
Jerry Uelsmann was a student of Minor White's and did a workshop with Ansel Adams.
He was the professor of Photography at University of Florida in Gainesville.
He is no longer printing any photographs dated before 1980.
Jerry has a great sense of humor.
I think of my photographs as being obviously symbolic, but not symbolically obvious.

How many photographs exist?
Although Uelsmann prints in unnumbered editions, there is no more than 6 - 20 of most of his images. For the more popular of his work (only 5 or 6 images), there are approximately 150 in all sizes.

How are the photographs printed and signed?
The photographs are signed on the photograph au verso in pencil, on the mat au verso in ink, and initialled on the mat au recto. Uelsmann also uses a copyright stamp.
A few vintage photographs are available. Vintage means that the print date is at or near the same time as the negative date.
Each photograph requires reassembling of the images involved. Uelsmann does not create a copy negative to reprint any of his photographs.
